No Good Sister celebrate the release of You Can Love Me with friends and fam
They joined together in 2012. Now, five years later, local country/rock/folk group No Good Sister has released their debut album, You Can Love Me. Maren Sharrow, Jess McDowell, and Meaghan Kyle are the voices behind the incredible harmonies of No Good Sister, and they celebrated the new record Saturday night at Boot And Saddle.
This was a special night, since the band had the album for sale as well as parents, husbands, and lots of friends to hear it performed live. All of their shows include a certain amount of energy and their record release party on Broad Street was no exception. The group had support from local songwriter, Andrea Nardello, who kicked off the night with energetic songs featuring electric cello and guitar solos which set a good tone for the night.
As Nardello’s opening set came to close, the room was packed; the band jumped right into the album opener “Just Tonight,” then flowed into “Wrote You Off.” They sang You Can Love Me in its entirety, and delivering a nice mix of tempo and featuring impressive three-part harmony. In addition to Jess McDowell playing acoustic guitar to accompany their singing, many of the songs also feature a slide guitar from Philly vet Mike “Slo-Mo” Brenner. The crowd was singing along and very into the entire show. They dug the harmony and beautiful voices in downtempo songs like “Little Bit Crazy,” and as soon as the band started rocking again the crowd did not hesitate to dance and sing along with “Look Good On Paper.”
