La Misa Negra bring a Latin fusion dance party to World Cafe Live next week
Bay Area big band La Misa Negra are an unstoppable force at their live shows. Horns blare, syncopated percussion set the groove, and vocalist Diana Trujillo leads the crowd through an intoxicating fusion of cumbia and Afro-Colombian dance music.
The octet will bring the party to World Cafe Live on Monday, May 8th, wrapping up an east coast tour before heading back to sunny California. Formed in 2011, the 1950s and 1960s inspired songs of La Misa Negra take on new life as traditions meld with contemporary sounds, captured on tape for 2013’s Misa De Medianoche. As you’ll see in the video below, the shows are an immersive experience – wholly transportive, suspending time and place for an hour or so of celebration.
