Listen to Slomo Sapians’ crunchy new track “Fangs”
Local rockers Slomo Sapiens, while taking one of the best band names in the area, also released their new single “Fangs” this week.
Previously featured in Items Tagged Philadelphia, the band’s new track fuses psychedelic spaciness with Buzzcocks-like grittiness, dirtying their guitars for some garage rock-influenced riffs and vocal inflections. At times, the song even calls back the hip-twisting grooves of early rockabilly while maintaining the crunch of classic grunge. It’s a mishmash of rock that somehow lands in a realm of The Orwells and mid-naughties bands of “The ______”, and that’s more than okay.
It’s a damn fun track, filled with instrumentals battling to stand out through countless features of guitar, drums, and that sexy organ. Through the modern mess of countless bedroom pop and electronic ambiance infecting music’s interwebs, it’s refreshing to see a sound with so much power behind it.
