Sheer Mag returns with new “Just Can’t Get Enough,” debut LP Need to Feel Your Love
After three years and just as many EPs of making music insiders trip over one another to declare them the saviors of gritty rock and roll authenticity and what have you, Philly five-piece Sheer Mag — who, industry hyperbole aside, are a sincerely great band — will finally release its first full length. Need To Feel Your Love is out July 14th on Wilsuns Recording Company. Based on the debut single, the band’s self-conscious 70s / 80s stylizations are still going strong, from the badass emblem on the sleeve to the infectious riffs and licks contained within. As Lars Gotrich over at NPR Music put it earlier today:
Over the three EPs the Philly band has released since 2014, their promise was writ in grimy, hooky-as-hell rock ‘n’ roll songs about love and politics. By the third, its members must’ve realized their soulful grit could translate, without losing itself, beyond sounding like it was recorded in a beer can.
Which isn’t to say the new “Just Can’t Get Enough” — no, not that one — is all of a sudden a polished, glossy pop affair. This is still a rock record, after all, and it captures the spirit of a band that rock out in front of sweaty crowds with abandon. Tina Halliday’s voice is commanding, while Kyle Seeley’s riffs and leads are massive earworm material. Listen to it below, enjoy getting it stuck in your cranium. And then catch the band this Saturday, May 13th, as it kicks off its spring tour at the First Unitarian Church. Details can be found here, full dates below.
