Watch Sweet Spirit fly their freak flag in their video for “The Power,” see them at XPNFest
Austin, Texas rock and roll force of nature Sweet Spirit just got added to the XPoNential Music Festival, and excitement for them is high around here at XPN HQ. They played a powerful #FreeAtNoon concert this spring in support of their new album St. Mojo, following it up with a set that night at Manayunk’s Dawson Street Pub. More recently, the band was named XPN’s Artist to Watch for the month of May.
Today, in addition to the news that they’ll be on XPNFest, we’re excited to bring you Sweet Spirit’s new music video for “The Power” from St. Mojo. It sees the band performing to a lab-coat crowd in a dystopian, clinical setting before exploding into Flaming Lips-y glittery light and color on the chorus, where frontwoman Sabrina Ellis sings about being the person you want to be, and discovering that person within. As Ellis tells us over email, “This song is a battle cry for the outcast, the awkward kid, society’s fringe. Drawing on high school dynamics and personal experience, with a Glam rock, stadium vibe, this song is our opening anthem, the underscore to our freak parade.”
