PREMIERE: Ill Fated Natives level up on the new slow-burner “Blind Man”
After debuting with the raw psychedelic blues of their Savages EP, Philly power trio Ill Fated Natives linked up with David Ivory, a producer who got his start engineering The Roots’ early records, including Things Fall Apart. Today, the band released “Blind Man,” the first song to emerge from their collaboration.
Like the best moments in the IFN back-catalogue, this song simmers in a midtempo groove and clocks in around the five-and-a-half minute mark, though Ivory’s production gives a soaring, shimmering quality, flipping it from slow burner to stadium anthem.
The band says the dreamy ballad “uses nautical themes that allude to a life at sea to paint a foreboding tale of the dangers that await those who do not heed Earth’s warnings.” Likewise, it is a taste of things to come from Ill Fated Natives.
As bassist Bets Charmelus tells us: “The next project, though currently untitled, will focus heavily on awareness. With songs like ‘2+2’ and ‘Blind Man,’ we’re using our music to speak to what we’re living through on a daily basis. We just want people to see the world as we do.”
