Secret American, New Sound Brass and more come together tonight for hurricane benefit show
Local promoters Bernie’s Lounge Presents will throwing a show tonight to benefit those affected by the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico, and they’ve put together a stacked lineup of performers to gather the most aid possible for the cause. The event, taking place at Ulana’s in Queen Village, will feature performances by Secret American and New Sound Brass, plus more local acts including You Do You and KORINE. Starting at 7 p.m. the venue’s gallery will be open for some visual art displays, and the benefit continues after the live music with a few DJ sets. All proceeds from the 21+ show will be donated to Unidos por Puerto Rico — visit the organization’s website for more information or to donate online.
The show’s varied lineup provides a great opportunity to enjoy some local talent while supporting those affected by the recent hurricanes. New Sound Brass have been a staple of the Philly instrumental/orchestral circuit for a few years now, their modern soulful sound drawing on a variety of multicultural influences. Listen to their Key Studio Session here. Secret American are newcomers to the scene, with a chill East-Coast-Meets-West-Coast vibe. Watch their recent video for “Warmth & Shelter” below.
