Glen Hansard shares an emphatic preview of his new LP with “Time Will Be The Healer”

Dublin singer-songwriter Glen Hansard — known for his work in The Frames, The Swell Season and the film Once — will release his third solo album, Between Two Shores, on January 19th. This week, he previewed the eagerly-awaited LP with “Time Will Be The Healer,” the closing track on the album.

The song has that classic Hansard sound, that easily recognizable swell from gentle and rhythmic to loud and emotional. It starts off quiet, the guitar and piano serving as just the background to Hansard’s easy, conversational vocals. He’s very reminiscent of an unplugged Eric Clapton and perhaps what Ed Sheeran will sound like in the next twenty years. It’s a song about loss and moving on: “Pretty soon you won’t even recall his name / one day when you’re long past this, you’ll laugh about it.” Just the title, “Time Will Be The Healer,” speaks of a lesson that is so difficult to learn, but so simple in nature, and Hansard has done a truly poetic job in capturing that essence in his lyrics.

I’m holding this album in high anticipation. You can find Between Two Shores everywhere on January 19th. While Hansard doesn’t have any Philadelphia shows lined up as of now, you can see him in New York City at Brooklyn Steel for the album release show on January 21st. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 6th at 10 a.m.
