Combo Chimbita and La Tribu de Abrante will play World Cafe’s next Latin Roots Live concert
World Cafe’s Latin Roots Live free concert series returns on October 29th, when you can catch Brooklyn’s Combo Chimbita and the 12-piece Puerto Rican orchestra La Tribu de Abrante at World Cafe Live.
La Tribu de Abrante, led by Hiram Abrante, blends together an amalgam of traditional bomba and plena melodies with salsa, Latin jazz, funk, reggaeton and urban pop, while conducting the 12-piece orchestra through an energetic set. They’re not one to miss.
Opening is Combo Chimbita, a quartet from Brooklyn, New York, featuring the powerhouse vocals of Carolina Oliveros. Brooklyn Magazine named them “the band you need to hear” in June after the release of the group’s two EPs. Their debut album, Abya Yala, explores visual identity through the use of masks onstage and a racially charged lyrical technique.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.; the event is open to all ages, but you must RSVP to attend.
