Hold The Phone: Bahamadia returns with DIALED UP 2
Philly hip-hop legend Bahamadia is back with DIALED UP 2, the second installment in a project of spontaneous self-recording she first began in 2013. The series strives to highlight how some seriously impressive recording that can be done outside of a traditional studio environment — Bahamadia recorded all 12 minutes of DIALED UP 2 on her cell phone.
It opens with a voice recording: the first thing we hear before the tunes kick in is “You don’t have to be in a studio environment at all, you can be anywhere…” As you dance along to the groove of the rest of the DIALED UP 2, you may even forget it was recorded on a phone — that’s what a master Bahamadia is of her innovative craft.
Joining her on the project are feature verses from Artist, Ohene Savant, Dave Ghetto, Rasco from Cali Agents, Groove Da Moast, Kev Brown, Prozack Turner, Fat Nice, Geechie Suede from Camp Lo, and Zumi from Zion I.
Bahamadia, who recently joined us for a Key Studio Session and was featured in the High Key Portrait Series, became a fixture of the local hip-hop scene back in the 90’s, and has been in the spotlight recently celebrating the 20-year anniversary of her debut full-length Kollage.
