Stream Friendship’s Shock Out of Season
Ahead of its Friday release, Philly’s Friendship have shared their new album Shock Out of Season in full with an early stream. Known for their minimalist narrative-driven folk tunes, the latest release is a steady progression of the solid foundation the band has built over the last few years, filling out their sound with a more robust, atmospheric sound. Shock Out of Season follows the band’s two previous releases: 2015’s You’re Going to Have to Trust Me and recent EP F/V Hope.
Backed by steady synths and the winding presence of pedal steel, the rumbling narrative of vocalist Dan Origins rises to the forefront of each song on the album, seamlessly weaving the tracks together into a brooding contemplation on life and loneliness. Alongside the familiarity of the lingering folk sound lies conversational spoken word that makes you feel like the band is speaking directly to you. Friendship’s innovative sound is quite unlike any other, and lucky for us we have 8 new meandering, drawn-out tracks to savor.
Friendship will bring Shock Out of Season home on Nov. 17 for a joint record release show with Power Animal, who are celebrating the release of Good Wind Pt. 1. Tall Friend and Free Cake for Every Creature also play. Find more information on the Everybody Hits show here.
Shock Out of Season is out Nov. 3 on Orindal Records. Stream it below via HypeMachine.
