DJ Rebel Foster provides heavy vibes for his new residency at the Saint Lazarus Bar
Chester-born DJ and producer Rebel Foster has taken up a residency at Fishtown’s Saint Lazarus Bar to lay down some original remixes and some great hip hop, soul, and R&B cuts. Foster’s residency hits Saint Lazarus on Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m., and to get his crowds hype, he recently dropped the Falling For You autumn mix.
It is eclectic, but consistent. Foster is looking to create synthy, bass-heavy dance grooves with samples ranging from Lauryn Hill’s “Doo-Wop (That Thing)” to Daniel Caesar’s “Get You” all the way to a chopped and screwed “Sexyback” remix.
The instrumental for J. Cole’s “High For Hours” also makes an appearance with a short 16-bar verse comprised of some witty lyrics laid on top. Foster’s transitions are top-notch and the thirty minute long mix is very easy to listen to all the way through. It was actually difficult to pause the mix because it was so enticing to hear what next song was going to be because there was such a range of options possible. Foster teased J. Dilla ad-libs and then completely turned you on your head by moving immediately to a super hot Metro Boomin trap instrumental.
This mix is definitely worth bumping, so do that below, and go check out Foster’s next set at St. Lazarus this Thursday; more info here.
