The Suffers show off their instrumental chops and groove hard on new single “I Think I Love You”
With a big band mentality and a passion for extending into a huge range of genres, The Suffers are back with a contagious new jam “I Think I Love You.” The single is the ten-piece Houston multi-instrumentalist collective’s first release since their impressive self titled debut in 2016. There are very few groups today that boast such a large spectrum of instruments while still being able to adequately cover genres all the way from reggae to trap, and The Suffers nail it across the board.
On the new track, which is hopefully a step towards a new album, vocalist Kam Franklin shows off her soul chops while still leaving room for the group’s horn section to jam out. “I Think I Love You” is a fast-paced ballad that incorporates a funky bongo backbeat, high-pitched keyboard accompaniment, and tight horn lines to assist Brown’s robust vocals. Just when you think the Suffers can do it all, trombonist Michael Razo shows off with a perfect trombone solo to cap off the last verse before the song hits the bridge. With a vintage big-band feel, jazz roots, and neo-soul sound, this song has us excited for whatever The Suffers has coming next..
