Bardo Pond shares “Kailash” and announces new LP Volume 8
Long-running Philly psych rock group Bardo Pond are an enigmatic force, to say the least. They’ve released 11 studio albums over the years, from 1995’s debut Bufo Alvarius Amen 29:15 to this year’s Under The Pines, and they’re already back with the announcement of their 12th — the forthcoming LP is titled Volume 8 and will be released February 2.
Ahead of the release, Bardo Pond have shared the hauntingly spacey instrumental track “Kailash.” Over six and a half minutes, “Kailash” meanders with gentle force, driven by Isobel Sollenberger’s otherworldly flute melody over the dark and steady bass and drumlines. The name comes from China’s Mount Kailash, a remote mountaintop often regarded as a sacred, holy place. Bardo Pond funnels their own interpretation of the mountain’s powers into the track, setting the mood for the album, which is described as a “euphoric transcendental journey to a mountain top nirvana, a psychedelic tapestry that slowly unwinds as they travel onwards into the inner mind.”
Listen below. Bardo Pond doesn’t have any upcoming tour dates, though they appeared at Kung Fu Necktie just a few nights ago and can often be found playing somewhere around town. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates from the band.
