Andorra’s What You Wanted, What You Got is heavy in all the right places
Philly alt rockers Andorra are back with a new release, a comp of their previous two EPs along with some never-before heard songs, packaged in the form of What You Wanted, What You Got.
The overall vibe of this one is definitely toeing the line between easygoing modern rock and heavy punk, and Andorra makes that delicate balance work perfectly in their favor. These songs are very drastically different from one another while still managing to carry an overarching sound through the album. There’s that typical angst-ridden vocal and punchy guitar, but there’s also an intricacy to the lyrics and stylistic choices within the soundscape that sets each song apart. It really shows how the two EPs compliment each other; there are the heavy songs like “Habits” and “(A Bad Taste) Boulders,” and then there are the sentimental anthems like “Indian Queen” that really help to change the pace of the album about halfway through. It’s an appropriate climax to a seven-song build up of nothing but pretty much heavy alt tracks.
Andorra got it right with What You Wanted, What You Got. It’s the perfect balance of heavy and light for the typical alt rock listener. You can stream the album below and catch the band live December 1st at Kung Fu Necktie with Alright Junior; the band also just announced a December 30th date at Underground Arts. Tickets to the shows can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
