Donn T | Photo by John Vettese

Earlier this fall, Philly’s own Donn T shared the soft and dreamlike single “Clear,” a collaboration with fellow Philadelphian Chill Moody. Now, the track has a new video to go along with it.

“Clear” originated as a companion song to Donn T’s recent literary debut, the short story “Time to Soar,” which was published in young adult literary anthology Behind the Song. Both story and song were inspired by Amy Winehouse’s “October Song,” about the late singer’s pet canary, and explores Donn T’s own relationship with birds. As the artist explained, “For almost 8 months, this bird would appear outside my window at various times of the day and call. The call was distinctive. I created the song around it.”

The track opens with Donn T telling the listener “this is a story about a little bird…and me” as the video places her in a contemplative role, imagining the intersection of art and nature. We see photographs of her and Chill Moody transformed with birdlike features at the hands of artist Fleur Ouwerkerk, as the soulful song asks us, “would you blame a bird?”

Donn T was recently featured in the High Key Portrait Series — read Josh Pelta-Heller’s interview with the artist here. You can also see Chill Moody’s High Key spotlight here, and watch the “Clear” video below.
