Palm delivers an inverted take on rock with their new single “Dog Milk”
While everyone else uses drums and bass as the standard rhythm section, Palm opts to flip the script, using vocals and guitar as the primary time-keeping instruments. The Philly based group is in a league of their own in the genre of experimental rock because they do it pretty darn well. Following up on “Pearly,” the first single for their upcoming album Rock Island (out February 9th via Carpark Records), Palm just dropped their second single “Dog Milk” on SoundCloud.
“Dog Milk” is a sweet, light-hearted track filled to the brim with sneaky harmonies, peculiar steel drum samples, and surprisingly comforting vocals. The term art rock definitely comes to mind — the group seems to be consciously trying every possible configuration of mixing its four instrumental elements in ways that have not been heard before. Experimentation is Palm’s bread and butter and on “Dog Milk” they execute their inquisitive sound to perfection.
Palm kicks off their lengthy US tour with an album release concert at the Market Hotel in NYC on the 9th. The tour concludes with a show in Philly at the First Unitarian Church on March 26th. Check out the XPN Concert Calendar for information and tickets and listen to Palm’s two singles below.
