First Aid Kit gets self-reflective on its new single “Fireworks”
There’s something special about hearing a new song before a recorded version has been released, and then revisiting it once it does reach public ears. Today we can experience that in the form of First Aid Kit‘s new song “Fireworks,” which the band previewed right here in Philly when they played Free at Noon in October. “Fireworks” follows the first two singles from the XPN perennial fave’s forthcoming album Ruins, “It’s a Shame” and “Postcard.”
If you didn’t catch all of the song’s lyrics when the band played it live, “Fireworks” has a handy lyric video to accompany its soft and dreamy sounds. Johanna and Klara Söderberg’s warm, folkish harmonies are in full force again here — the track starts out sleepy and contemplative before gaining traction as the sisters wonder, “Why do I do this to myself / Every time I know the way it ends?”
Those who picked up tickets for First Aid Kit’s upcoming sold-out Union Transfer show in February can take comfort in the fact that they’ll hear First Aid Kit live again real soon. The rest of us will have to be content with the recorded version of Ruins, but if the first three singles are any indication, that won’t be too hard.
