Kendrick Lamar, SZA and cohorts from the Top Dawg Entertainment roster bring their summer jam to BB&T
Tour announcement season is officially upon us! With a handful of star-studded spring/summer lineups already announced (Waxahatchee / Hurray For The Riff Raff / Bedouine at Union Transfer on 4/16; Japanese Breakfast / LVL UP / Radiator Hospital at Union Transfer on 6/3; Dr. Dog / (Sandy) Alex G at The Festival Pier on 6/23), it’s only fitting that one of the best modern day Hip-Hop labels announces the tour of the summer.
Dubbed TDE: The Championship Tour, the label’s all-star lineup enlists Kendrick Lamar, SZA, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SiR, Lance Skiiiwalker, and stops in Philly on Friday, June 8th at BB&T Pavilion.
In 2017, label powerhouses Kendrick Lamar and SZA both dropped chart-topping, Grammy nomination-earning albums in the form of DAMN. and Ctrl, respectively – the former being voted The Key’s favorite album of 2017. With the announcement of this tour, TDE is building on an already impressive start to 2018. In just 22 days of the New Year, Kendrick Lamar performed the first halftime show at the College Football National Championship game, Lamar and TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith curated and produced the soundtrack to Marvel’s upcoming film Black Panther, and just last week, label newcomer SiR released his debut album “November.”
The collaborative nature of being labelmates lends itself to many of TDE’s artists appearing on each other’s songs. Ranging from R&B collabs grounded by SZA to posse cuts billed under the name Black Hippy, the tour’s setlist is bound to be chaotically unpredictable. Listen below to a sample of the label’s works.
