After releasing a handful of EP’s since formation in 2011, pure-Philly rock n rollers The Retinas have virtually wiped the slate clean by deleting all previous material from their Bandcamp page. What remains are two mysterious, fuzzy singles: loosie “Necklace Stone” and lead single “Checked Out,” which will appear on the band’s upcoming EP, Andy. With the majority of the band’s upcoming output mixed and produced by Keith Abrams (Pine Barons, The Districts), these first two raucous garage/psych singles are surely indicative of the band’s upcoming direction.

Ranging from easygoing to freewheeling throughout the course of “Checked Out,” The Retinas rock out like modern garage rock revivalists Oh Sees or King Tuff while retaining their Philly grit. Opening with soft lyrics of warm coasts, the power trio stops on a dime after the first verse, taking a quick detour to an instrumental freak-out before returning to familiar sunny vibes. “Checked Out” swells much like the waves on the beaches we’re transported to, or perhaps like that of a tumultuous relationship. Accompanying the lead single is a heady music video, featuring varying speed shots and youthful vandalism, which you can view below.

Andy EP is slated to release February 27th on Pho Realz Records. The Retinas play their record release show the following month, March 17th at Ortlieb’s. Tix and supporting acts can be found on Facebook.
