Times are busy for Philly’s Thin Lips — the band has a new record in the works and an episode of Weathervane Music’s Shaking Through series coming out in a few days, and now singer/guitarist Chrissy Tashjian is featured on WHYY’s The Pulse health and science podcast, discussing some of the challenges she faces while making music.

The piece, which comes as a collaboration between WHYY and local nonprofit Weathervane, shows Tashjian discussing the anxiety and agoraphobia that have taken her years to manage — eventually overcoming her fear of flying in order to take Thin Lips on a European tour.

Tashjian says:

“I really learned that it’s ok to be afraid of things. But if I avoid doing those things then I kind of end up shutting myself out of the world. I make music because I have to. Music is like my therapy.”

Listen to the podcast in full here. Thin Lips’ Shaking Through episode, which features new song “So Stoned,” was produced by Hop Along’s Frances Quinlan, will be released on Jan. 31. Watch a teaser for the episode below and visit weathervanemusic.org for more.
