Church Girls revisits and revives their early track “Young Planes”
Philly four-piece Church Girls released a new version of an old favorite this past week. The rerecorded track, “Young Planes,” is the indie-rockers’ first release since 2017’s LP, Hidalgo. First appearing on the band’s 2015 self-titled EP, the group teamed up with Philly producer Brian McTear to give this track a new life.
The updated mix sounds full, with driving guitars at the forefront of the first half of the song and gorgeous vocal play between lead singer Mariel Beaumont and back up vocalist Joseph Wright. Staying true to the original song structure, the band includes the breathtaking, downtempo breakdown found in the original. This time around, the band opts for a leading piano melody in this section. The slowed, calm piano line plays the perfect companion to Beaumont’s cry, “I’m a long way from young.”
Stream the new mix of “Young Planes” below via the band’s SoundCloud and catch Church Girls at Philly’s Tralmafadore on Saturday, February 24. For information and tickets, check out Facebook.
