Philly born dynamic duo Marian Hill has just released a new track titled “Differently” which features co-production from hip hop heavyweight Boi-1da. The song features heavy electric bass, infectious claps, and catchy synths, an impressive blend of sounds from Jeremy Lloyd and Boi-1da’s collab. Samatha Gongol’s smooth, ethereal vocals add to the unapologetic, badass atmosphere of the song as she sings nonchalant and confident.

At first, the song seems to be one of those feeling sorry for yourself / I want you back kind of situations, but upon further listening the song reveals itself to be a “friend giving you encouraging advice to get over trash ex, without blaming the poor new girl who doesn’t realize he’s trash yet” story. Clever lyrics like “I know you were never there for me / And I’m sure she’ll see what a fool you’ll be” drive home the refreshing and empowering message.

This single implies more bangers to come on Marian Hill’s upcoming album Unusual, which is available for pre-order here. They’ll also be playing a hometown show at Union Transfer on May 8th. Tickets and more information on that show can be found here. In the meantime, check out Marian Hill’s new single down below.
