Dark Thoughts releases new tape recorded at WKDU
Philly punk trio Dark Thoughts released a teaser of new music this week in the form of a live EP, recorded at Drexel University’s radio station, WKDU. Titled Dark Thoughts Live! on WKDU and recorded by Key contributor and WKDU host Yoni Kroll, the live EP contains four tracks split over the two sides. The live tracks are previews of Dark Thought’s upcoming sophomore album, Dark Thoughts at Work.
Opening with some safe for radio banter, guitarist and singer Jim Shomo introduces the yet-to-be-released tracks to WKDU’s listeners. The band’s Ramones-esque sound comes though in the live songs, much like on their 2016 self-titled debut. “Anything II,” “I Wish,” and “Gimmie Soda” are all head rushes, while “Psycho Ward” changes pace, opting for a slower yet driving tempo.
Dark Thoughts are slated to open for Iron Chic on July 29 at Boot & Saddle. Before that show, however, the band will play an in-store matinee session at West Philly’s Common Beat Music on Sunday, June 3. According to Dark Thoughts’ bandcamp page, the live tape will be available for sale at the show.
