Jim James rallies against social media excess on his new track “Throwback”
My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James is back with another single off his upcoming third solo album. “Throwback,” a reference to Throwback Thursday or #tbt, follows up lead single “Just a Fool,” and both tracks will appear on upcoming release Uniform Distortion.
On the new single James denounces the mindlessness of scrolling through social media in a jam-rock fashion. Lyrically touching on youthful potential and the total time suck social media can lead to, James closes the track with a hopeful message: “Oh, all the potential in the world / Still living now, still living now.”
Recently, James teamed up with Angel Olsen in Brooklyn to perform a cover of Sonny & Cher’s “Baby Don’t Go” at David Lynch’s Festival of Disruption.
