As renovations continue at what was once the Gallery at Market East, news emerged this week that live music will be in the cards when the space re-opens next year.

City Winery, the restaurant / live music chain that originated in New York City in 2008, will open its seventh satellite venue in the shopping and entertainment complex (which will be called Fashion District Philadelphia) when it opens in September of 2019, the Inquirer reports.

The venues in the City Winery network — which can also be found in Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. — are generally mid-size, with capacities in the 450 seated / 600 standing range. Bookings tend to favor singer songwriters like Suzanne Vega and David Crosby, adult alternative favorites like The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn and Nicole Atkins, and tribute acts like The Fab Faux. In Philly, its booking equivalents would be World Cafe Live and Ardmore Music Hall.

In a press statement, City Winery founder Michael Dorf said “We are so proud to open our seventh location in a city that has such a rich history and passion for both music and cultural experiences as well as a dynamic food scene. We are bringing to Philadelphia a venue unlike any other in the city.”
