I don’t know that Foxing will ever break the Internet, but they definitely broke emo as a genre. “Gameshark” is the third single off the band’s upcoming album, Nearer My God, out August 10. The song is a violent, nightmarish trip. Frontman Conor Murphy sings in falsetto that is frantic and taut as wire. The guttural, spiked chorus rises over a slithering bass line and electronic grooves.

If you crossed Gorillaz and Brand New, “Gameshark” would be the result. Imagine the ground opens up and swallows you whole–thats what this song feels like, the opening scenes to an apocalyptic horror flick. Instrumentally Foxing has outdone themselves and this album is sure to be incomparable their tamer previous album, Dealer.

The band appears in Philadelphia on September 5th, headlining Union Transfer; details and more information on the show can be found here. Listen to “Gameshark” below.
