Patti Smith may be a legend in her longtime hometown of New York City, but the South Jersey native will always have a special place in the Philly area’s heart. Still, those wanting to see her perform live anytime soon will have to make a trek to the Big Apple — Smith just announced a run of shows at the Minetta Lane Theatre on September 22, 23 and 24.

The three “Words and Music” shows will feature songs from across Smith’s catalog interspersed with her signature spoken-word performance. The Greenwich Village theater has recently become home to audio entertainment company Audible, which will record the shows to be part of a later release. Patti Smith’s acclaimed memoirs Just Kids, M Train and Devotion are also available as self-narrated audiobooks via Audible.

These shows are among Patti Smith’s only scheduled performances for the remainder of the year; other upcoming shows will be in LA and San Francisco. Smith was last in Philly on a book tour in 2015; an archive of her talk is available for listening courtesy of the Free Library.

Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, August 22 at midnight. Find more information here.
