WKDU celebrates 15 years of the Electronic Music Marathon
Drexel’s WKDU returns this year with its infamous annual Electronic Music Marathon, which brings an entire long weekend’s worth (over 80 hours!) of non-stop electronic music to the university radio station’s airwaves. Featuring a roster of over a hundred local DJs, this year’s event will run from Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8.
Each year, KDU chooses a local non-profit to raise money for during the event. The previous 14 Marathons have raised over $36,000 for various causes including Mural Arts, PAWS, and The Village of Arts & Humanities, and after a successful partnership with Philly AIDS Thrift last year, they’ve teamed up again. Though best known for its popular thrift store, Philly AIDS Thrift is an umbrella organization that shares its proceeds among several area non-profits, including Attic Youth, an LGBTQ youth center, and AIDS Law, which provides free legal assistance to people living with HIV and AIDS.
Like last year, AIDS Thrift will host a remote listening party at their S. 5th St. storefront on the Saturday of the Marathon. DJ registration for the Marathon is now open, but be warned that demand to participate is usually very high. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
