Applications are now open for the second annual Gene Shay Folk DJ Scholarship
Gene Shay, retired host of The Folk Show
Gene Shay has been long hailed as a major influencer in the Philadelphia radio and folk world. Over the course of his career, he worked on six different radio stations in Philadelphia, including WXPN, welcoming artists such as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Phil Ochs, and Tom Waits onto his show.
Though he retired from the airwaves in 2015, the organization Folk Alliance International hopes to continue his legacy with their second annual Gene Shay Folk DJ Scholarship. FIA is seeking an emerging DJ with deep knowledge of the folk scene in the hopes of supporting the next generation of broadcasters and folk musicians.
