In 2013, Bucks County singer-songwriter Matthew Schuler took the stage on NBC’s Emmy award-winning competitive reality series The Voice. Schuler earned a trip to the finals as well as hitting #1 on iTunes Charts and #40 on Billboard for his rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” on the show. He has shared the stage with numerous figures in the industry such as Ne-Yo, Christina Aguilera, DNCE, Flo Rida and many more.

After the show, he took two years to collect himself to figure out his true authentic self, which is the inspiration behind his new EP Baby Steps.

Prior to the debut, he dropped the leading single off of Baby Steps “Here’s To You”, which is dedicated to his loyal fans who have stuck with him through it all. The struggles of figuring out who you are and all the decisions you have to make throughout your life, how to act/speak/do, can be difficult to answer. Schuler used that struggle and honed it into creating a six piece collection of songs that revolves around those themes, especially on three of his new songs: “Free”, “Take Me As I Am” and “Profits.” He talks about the corruption in the music industry in his song “Profit” as well and how he wants to be his true self rather than today’s cookie-cutter artists.

I absolutely adore “Secret Things”. It’s catchy and upbeat. The lyrics are about true love, innocence and being carefree. Overall, the 25-year-old is no longer that kid singing in his parents’ church, but just a guy searching high and low for the answers to “who he really was.” Matthew Schuler will be performing at Milkboy on October 21st with Joshua Howard and Marielle Kraft.
