Swearin's Kyle Gilbride takes the lead on Fall into the Sun closer "Future Hell" - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart

The first Swearin’ record in five years, Fall into the Sun, comes out in just one month, and ahead of the release date the band has shared “Future Hell,” the album’s third single and closing track. While the new record, much like Swearin’s previous material, has both Allison Crutchfield and Kyle Gilbride sharing songwriting duties and trading off on vocals, this is the first new song we’ve heard that’s lead by Gilbride.

And with “Future Hell,” Gilbride leads us through a disorienting journey to some otherworldly place; a sonic escape into another realm that detaches the record from the grounded, close-to-home nature of its other songs and leaves us with something a bit unsettling, and a bit comforting. As Gilbride tells the Fader, the song is about “visions of an unseen place and time, learning lessons of disenchantment from a new and hostile world. Finding a way back, friendship and independence reveal marks on the trail.”

Listen to “Future Hell” below. Fall into the Sun will be released October 5 on Merge Records. Swearin’ plays the First Unitarian Church on October 10 with Empath; find tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
