Listen to ARTHUR get bizarre in frenzied debut single
Meet ARTHUR, the experimental pop artist no one has ever heard of. This is the solo project of Arthur Shea of Philly’s indie DIY group Joy Again. Arthur has been gaining traction after recently touring with Rex Orange County, and signing with Vegyn’s independent label PLZ Make It Ruins.
“Ivy League” is the first single off his upcoming debut album Woof Woof, set to release this fall. The quirky, upbeat tune blends bizarre sound effects (dog barking, chimes, fireworks) over a folky banjo riff, a skittering electric drum beat and energetic, bubbling keyboards. The overall impression is frenzied, like an over-caffeinated kid is pressing random buttons on a video game controller. Arthur is transmitting alien sounds from another planet.
ARTHUR has a record release show coming up at PhilaMOCA on October 30th, and info can be found here. Check out the video for “Ivy League” below, directed by Richard Phillip Smith and Jake Lazovick.
