Old 97’s announce holiday album; Rhett Miller announces solo album
News from Rhett Miller and his band Old 97’s comes two-fold today. First off, the alt-country veterans have shared that they’ll be getting into the holiday spirit a bit early this year with the announcement of Love The Holidays, their first album of original holiday songs, to be released on November 16. Additionally, Miller will release his next solo album, The Messenger, on November 9, making for a busy fall for both the solo performer and the band.
Miller will tour throughout the fall, both solo and with the band, and will perform as the opening act at most of Old 97’s headlining shows. As far as local shows go, he’ll play a solo show at Ardmore Music Hall on October 6, and return to town with Old 97’s for a Holiday Extravaganza show at the TLA on December 7, with Miller opening. Of The Messenger, Miller said in a press release:
“I wanted this record to be less safe. I wanted to put myself in the hands of a producer who was going to do things that I didn’t expect; I wanted to play with people I didn’t know and be surprised by what they came up with. And all of that really came to pass. That’s what you’re getting this record. You’re getting this locked-in rhythm section with a crazy, psychedelic guitar maestro playing along with me singing my songs about depression and insecurity.”
