Watch Half Waif’s soaring, serene Tiny Desk Concert
Possibly this is the first upright piano we’ve seen in one of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concerts. Definitely it’s the most keyboards we’ve seen in front of the familiar bookshelf backdrop, since not only does Half Waif‘s Nandi Rose Plunkett alternate between a synth and an upright, her bandmate Adan Carlo joins on bass synth, and Zubin Hensler on a second synth. The lineup is completed by Zack Levine on drums, and Robin Baytas on auxiliary percussion, sampler, and possibly another synth.
In any case, the performance of “Lavender Burning,” “Silt,” and “Salt Candy” is beautiful, with NPR’s Bob Boilen saying it “reinforces my love for their peaceful, almost backwoods calm.” Watch Half Waif’s Tiny Desk Concert below, and see them in Philadelphia this weekend, when they’ll open for (Sandy) Alex G at the First Unitarian Church basement. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
