Philly alt-rock outfit Presages is one of the newest additions to the scene, and they’ve already made a lasting first impression with the sweeping new single “Surrender.” The band was founded by frontman and guitarist Angel Ocana, who also plays drums in local hip-hop collective Hardwork Movement, earlier this year. The four-piece also includes Justin Leggio on drums, Albert Collazo on bass and Molly White on piano and vocals.

Recorded and mixed at Philly’s Miner Street Recordings, “Surrender” tackles heavy themes with remarkable grace — “I’ll see you in the darkest place of my heart / Where you ripped a hole inside me,” Ocana sings, backed by richly polished instrumentals that replace feelings of toxicity with the a welcoming sheen. Reached via email, Ocana shared that the song is about “coming to the realization that even though you love someone it doesn’t mean they’re right for you.”

“The song also hints at political aspects as well. Brainwashing media, television garbage and the current president situation. Sometimes you just wanna wash it all away.”
