Orion Sun showcases her influences and sketches in test: experimental tape continuous mix
Philly singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Orion Sun has a new album in the works, but ahead of that release she’s sharing some new material in the form of a 19-minute Soundcloud compilation. According to the artist, the new release, which is titled test: experimental tape, features a combination of mostly self-produced remixes and unreleased songs that Orion Sun decided didn’t fit with the new record but wanted to share anyway.
In the mix with reworked bits of hip-hop classics — Redman’s “Can’t Wait,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “1nce Again,” Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” — we hear vignettes, verses, and previously unheard melodies from Orion Sun’s creative sketchbook, plus an ear-grabbing sample of poet Mike Taylor reading a piece called “I’m Thinking About You.”
Orion Sun hinted that the new record will be out sometime next year, writing on Soundcloud:
“thank you for your patience! im excited to show you my album next year, ive been working really hard on it and finding out a lot about myself. its been quite the ride but its almost over and in some ways just starting haha”
