We last saw Toronto punk four-piece PUP headline a packed and sweaty Union Transfer on the heels of their acclaimed The Dream Is Over LP, and in the intervening years, the world has become an increasingly weirder and more alienating place. But in these times, community is even more important than ever, which seems to be the theme of the band’s new single “Kids.”

In a press release, singer-guitarist and songwriter Stefan Babcock explains that “‘Kids’ is a love song from one nihilistic depressive to another.”

“It’s about what happens when you stumble across the only other person on the face of this godless, desolate planet that thinks everything is as twisted and as fucked up as you do. And thanks to them, the world starts to seem just a little less bleak. But only slightly – it’s still pretty fucked up to be honest.”

A Hold Steady style sing-speak ripper, “Kids” is the lead single from PUP’s new record Morbid Stuff, which releases on the band’s new Little Dipper label on April 5th, and can be pre-ordered here. Give the song a listen below, check out the cover art and track listing, as well as the tour dates — which bring PUP back to Union Transfer on April 29th for a stacked show with Ratboys and Diet Cig. Tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
