Maya De Vitry strives beyond the unseen in her new “My Body Is A Letter” video
Songwriter Maya De Vitry, formerly of Lancaster folk outfit The Stray Birds, is about to release Adaptations, her first album of solo material. She’s already shared a few songs via Bandcamp, and ahead of this Friday’s release De Vitry premiered a haunting video for the track “My Body Is A Letter” via NPR Music.
As De Vitry tells NPR, the song is “about the gentleness, awareness, and consciousness with which we long to be touched and heard and seen.” De Vitry was able to bring that message to life by working with visual artist Andrew Benincasa on the video. Benincasa’s vision for the video centered on the thought-provoking question, “How have you felt unseen as a person, as a woman?”
De Vitry writes, “And I wonder — how might our human relationships transform when we dare to ask each other such a question? It is a true privilege to share ‘My Body Is A Letter,’ and to honor and celebrate the abundant pain and resilience and hope that lives within our story-filled bodies.”
Adaptations is out January 25 on De Vitry’s own Mad Maker Studio label. Watch the “My Body Is A Letter” video below.
