Laura Stevenson emerges from The Big Freeze with a new record on Don Giovanni
Hudson Valley songwriter Laura Stevenson will return with a new album this spring. Reportedly recorded in the dead of winter and appropriately titled The Big Freeze, it’ll be out March 29 via Don Giovanni Records, and Stevenson will play a show at PhilaMOCA on May 23 with Kississippi.
Stevenson is known as a fixture of the punk and indie rock scenes, but according to a press release from Don Giovanni, this record will mark a shift in style toward a more acoustic sound: “It is a natural aesthetic choice for the musician, who has often toured as a solo act and who pulls influence from the great American songbook, and a choice that plays to the core strength and organic beauty of her writing. And though it is easily the darkest and most emotionally-devastating album of Stevenson’s career, it is also without a doubt her most powerful.”
As Stevenson Tweeted, putting the songs together musically and lyrically was the difficult part; recording them came more effortlessly.
