Watch &More bring Dock Street Beer, birthday cake, and Ethel Bobcat to NPR Music’s Tiny Desk
Chill Moody and Donn T were beaming a little bit more than usual when they performed at the fabled Tiny Desk at NPR Music HQ earlier this month. For certain, they were excited about a dream gig — one they landed after their Tiny Desk Contest entry from last year got them on the Tiny Desk on the Road tour’s Philly stop at World Cafe Live upstairs in May. But it was also Chill Moody’s 34th birthday, and they marked the occasion by bringing out a strawberry shortcake and clinking cans of Dock Street Brewery’s #NiceThings IPA. And of course performing an engaging and uplifting live set.
For this performance, &More consisted of drummer Marlon Lewis, singer Ty Lemar, bassist Norwood Long III, guitarist Jake Morelli, and keys player Dan Rouse. In addition to singles “My Own Light” and “WHOA,” the band debuted another new song from their upcoming LP Ethel Bobcat, due out on April 5th. “Future Come Around” bristles with urgency despite its midtempo pace, and carries along with the band’s critical, yet optimistic outlook on the world. As NPR’s Bob Boilen writes:
…despite the intensity of the subject matter, much of what &More, Donn T and Chill Moody play stays positive. You can hear it in the refrain of the song: ‘The hate you give, won’t stop and let you think; the love you save keeps you on the brink.’ The positivity is infectious.
