Mavis Staples keeps on getting stronger on “Anytime”
Mavis Staples is having a busy year. The legendary singer and activist is about to release her 12th studio album, We Get By, and she’ll spend the next several months on tour — including three special birthday shows to celebrate her 80th.
Staples worked with collaborator Ben Harper on the new album, which comes out May 10. The second single “Anytime” is out now, continuing the theme of unity and progress that resonates throughout the album. “I’m the messenger,” Staples shared in a press release. “That’s my job—it has been for my whole life—and I can’t just give up while the struggle’s still alive. We’ve got more work to do, so I’m going to keep on getting stronger and keep on delivering my message every single day.”
Mavis Staples headlines Cape May Convention Hall on July 31, and she’ll be back in town opening for Brandi Carlile at The Mann Center on September 6. Find tickets and more information on both shows on the XPN Concert Calendar.
