NON-COMM Recap: Tacocat’s energy is unmatched, starting strong and finishing stronger
An indie-punk four-piece from Seattle walked onto World Cafe Live’s upstairs stage glowing—literally. Covered head-to-toe in bright colors and sparkles, the audience had no choice but to pay attention to Tacocat‘s set, and rightly so. The band brought an unwavering burst of energy to the first night of NonCOMM, performing a handful of songs from each of their three albums.
Tacocat wasted no time getting started as they jumped right into “Hologram” from their latest album This Mess Is a Place. Lead singer Emily Nokes started dancing with a tambourine in her hand and didn’t quit until the set was complete (minus breaks between songs to sip some tea—we hope she’s feeling okay).
“The Joke of Life” featured backup vocals from guitarist Eric Randall and bassist Bree McKenna that perfectly complemented Nokes’s raspy pipes. Drummer Lelah Maupin was sporting a checkered onesie and a toothy smile throughout all 7 songs the band played, which made it clear to the audience that these artists love what they do.
Tacocat clearly had a great time on stage which encouraged the audience to do the same. The Seattle-based band is playing Boot & Saddle in Philly this Saturday; more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Keep your eye on them as they sprinkle their colorful spirit all over the country during their US tour.
