The Dead Flowers are a five-piece rock band from New Brunswick, NJ who have released three songs so far this year, the most recent two being “What I’m Lookin’ For” and “So Damn Easy”. Their sound is dynamic, leaning garage-rock-ish on the surface, but also on the softer indie side at times.
“So Damn Easy” has a very classic rock and roll sound, complete with an electric guitar solo, plenty of cymbal crashes and wisely placed harmonies. The piano gives it an almost bluesy vibe as well. “What I’m Lookin’ For” is on the opposite side of the aforementioned spectrum with a much slower tempo. Soft guitar strumming and tasteful slides make for a successful indie tune. For me, this track is somewhat reminiscent of The Shoobies, another young NJ band.
The Dead Flowers is comprised of Matt Szkaradnik, Mike Parry, Johnny Dinunz, Zach Tyler, and Steve Verdi. Check out their two new singles and catch them at Club Germ in Pennsauken on June 1st with Jake Clemons (son of the famous Clarence), and then in Philly on July 20th at the Barbary; tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
