Isolation feels familiar in Tate’s new single “Bad Hangover”
Everyone is familiar with occasional feeling of loneliness where you feel oddly detached from a person or a place you’re usually connected to. Maybe somebody screwed you over, or maybe you’re exhausting yourself by repeating your own mistakes. Either way, you’re unsettled. Philadelphia four-piece Tate conveys this aura in their latest indie-rock single “Bad Hangover.” We’ve all been there.
The song tells a story of drunk mistakes, internet relationships, and isolation through a rhythmic monologue by lead singer-guitarist Tate Kamish. Her voice sounds raw and genuine, which makes the story even more worth listening to. Plentiful cymbal and hard electric guitar riffs fill the song with a subtle fury, like she’s mad at society for making her believe she has to go out and get drunk to have fun — and mad at herself for falling for it over and over again.
Kamish started making music on her own several years ago but has since joined forces with fellow guitarist Tori Roccia, bassist Natalia Navarra, and drummer John Dicocco to create Tate. The group will play Philly Music Fest on Friday, September 27th. Tickets and info can be found on the XPN Concert Calendar. Check out “Bad Hangover” below.
