Watch Orville Peck dance in a barn for his “Hope To Die” video, see him at The Foundry this fall
Our favorite masked cowboy will be riding back into Philly this October. Last month, Orville Peck put on a rousing set at our 2019 NonCOMM and now he has announced that he’ll be returning to play The Foundry on Thursday, October 10th. Peck’s upcoming tour is in support of his spectacular debut album, Pony, which came out in March via Sub Pop. In addition to announcing a slew of tour dates, Peck has also shared the video for Pony‘s heartbreaking penultimate track, “Hope To Die”.
The video sees Peck is a variety of different settings and outfits, yet always wearing his signature mask-hat combo. Peck never reveals his face so it is unclear if he is singing along to the track or not. Nonetheless, as he stands among actual ponies, another cowboy, and one stage alone, he delivers the lovelorn track. Directed by Blake Mawson, the video depicts both tender and dark moments. Scattered throughout the clip are references to classic cowboy imagery, spaghetti Westerns, and more. Its centerpiece is Peck’s dance break that comes before the final chorus. Naturally, the dance break takes place inside a barn.
Vogue premiered the video earlier this afternoon alongside a piece on Peck. It discusses his style and the rise of cowboy culture, but not Peck’s true identity. The ongoing mystery is part of what makes Peck so intriguing.
Watch the video for “Hope To Die” below. Tickets and information about Orville Peck’s October 10th show at The Foundry can be found on the XPN Concert Calendar. Check out Peck’s full list of tour dates below. Pony is out now.
