Get lost in the synth pop serenity of Philly’s Arch of Love
Lots of artists try to reimagine 80’s synth pop in exciting ways, but not all succeed. Arch Of Love, the new duo made up of Chelsea Brennan and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart‘s Chris Schackerman, are one of the few that do. The Philly duo’s debut single, “Night Walk”, expertly weaves New Wave, synths, saxophone, and great writing into the perfect slice of pop. The single is bursting with romance, enthusiasm, and the promise of an exciting future for the duo.
Brennan’s impressive vocals are met with shimmering guitar playing by Schackerman. Programmed drums and synths are also very present in the mix. The last minute of the track is carried by a glorious sax solo, played by Kyle Press. All together, the song feels richly layered and fun. It’s a little too easy to get lost in… if you’re not careful you’ll realize you’ve just listened to it five times in a row and are eager for another. Like the best 80’s pop, “Night Walk” is addicting, bright, and sparkly.
Arch Of Love recently signed to 6131 Records. The label is also home to Philly fuzz pop outfit, Grayling, who just released their first new track in three years. Expect the label to keep pushing out great Philly music, from these two artists and hopefully others.
On Thursday, June 20th, Arch Of Love will play Johnny Brenda’s with Lovelorn, Pouring Silver, and Queen Jo. They’re also playing Friday the 21st at LVAC in Bethlehem with Service Dog, and Ortlieb’s with Hibou and Crozet in August. Find tickets and more information for both shows on the XPN Concert Calendar. Check out “Night Walk” below.
