Kingsley Ibeneche’s new theatrical production REALMS: A Soul Opera will premiere at the PMA next week
Writer, musician, and choreographer Kingsley Ibeneche has become a familiar face around Philadelphia for his music, but his latest project, REALMS: A Soul Opera, branches out into theatrical territory. Combining music with dialogue and movement, the production will make its premiere with two performances in the Great Stair Hall of the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Friday, July 26.
REALMS features songs from Ibeneche’s EP of the same name, which was released earlier this year, and comes together with the help of a band, singers, and dancers. According to a press release, “Ibeneche’s ‘soul opera’ comes to life through the creative intermingling of themes from ancient Greek tragedy, Elizabethan soliloquy, Nigerian high life and futuristic boom bap.”
REALMS: A Soul Opera will be presented as part of the PMA’s Friday Nights series, and tickets are free with museum admission. Find more information on the XPN Concert Calendar. A magazine version of the REALMS playscript is available to purchase via Bandcamp.
