Take a look at the dazzling new Stevie Wonder mural in Detroit
Music legend and Detroit native Stevie Wonder has been given a mural in his hometown.
On Stevie’s 69th birthday, artist Richard Wilson began working on a 100-foot mural on the side of Detroit’s Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, depicting a young Stevie Wonder playing the piano on top of a Greetings From Detroit postcard image.
“For me, he’s the greatest living singer, songwriter, and musician,” Wilson told the Detroit Free Press. The artist was not granted any money for the project; he paid for the plane trip and all of the supplies in order to make the mural. He also is working on another mural in Detroit that, according to the Free Press, will depict a young African American boy staring at the stage of Music Hall.
Stevie Wonder has announced that he will not tour until 2020; we will be healing from a kidney transplant in September, and we here at XPN wish him the best of luck!
