Philly is no stranger to punk and metal music, but what happens when the two combine? You get Plot, a punk band that loves to mix in elements of sludge metal and industrial-noise. The new EP, Caught Dead, has been released on Suicide Bong Records. Fusing many different styles together, it is a great taste of the range of sound that can come out from the Philly heavy music scene.

Caught Dead features raw, lo-fi vocals, pummeling drum beats, and heavy rock guitar riffs all throughout. It kicks off with heavy sludge riffs on “You Can Go Now,” which also features loud, noisy vocals. The band is able to slow things down on “Hand Wire,” which provides a steady drum groove. Distant guitar-esque vocal screams can be heard on “Ricochet,” one of the grooviest and hard-hitting on the album. The industrial side comes out on “2197,” an ambient drone tune filled with polyrhythmic drums and evolving distorted soundscapes. Overall, Caught Dead is an impressive project and really shows the strengths that Philly bands like Plot can bring to the table.
